Responsibilities

Participate in in toolbox meetings and contribute value-adding ideas to safety and environment around the workplace

Shows and guide to Operators/Drivers how to conduct a thorough pre-start check of the equipment and inspection of the working area and fill in in a hazard slip for the identified hazards

Do PTO (Planned task Observation) of the equipment we use for production to increase efficiency and effectiveness
-
Adhere to all safe practices when doing practical training to the novice Operators/Drivers and the experienced ones for skill retention
-
Participates in incident/ accident investigation caused by Operators/Drivers both from Barrick and contractors
-
Warn, mentor and coach Operators/Drivers on the spot when found doing something unsafe.

Train safe and productive operating practices to Operators/Drivers and follow up for implementation
-
Holding disciplinary counselling to Operators/Drivers breaching safety rules during equipment operation
-
Develop, review and communicate SOPs to Operators/Drivers and the whole Mining force
-
Technical trainers tie up with safety officers to ensure safety and good practices are considered to every piece of work.

Participates in motivating and guiding Operators/Drivers to do what is right and required by the company or what is planned to be done within the shift

Actively obeys and adheres to instructions given by the top Mining leadership

Train Operators/Drivers how to conduct effective equipment walk around inspection, correctly and timely reporting of identified faults
-
Train and assess green (Starting from scratch) and experienced Operators/Drivers on proper and effective equipment operation and issue permits for the equipment found or when competency is achieved

Train Operators/Driver of tired equipment on tire care and management to increase tire life to planned tire life or beyond
-
Train Operators/Drivers on environment management and reporting timely the environmental incidents
-
Train and assess Operators/Drivers for supporting equipment in other departments
-
Conduct assessment for workshop personnel and issue the Move and Test permit for the equipment under repair or services
-
Assess contractor equipment Operators/Drivers and issue with operating permits for the equipment found competent to operate safely and productively
-
Conduct field follow up to ensure what is trained or assessed to the Operators/Drivers are implemented on the field for both OC Mining, maintenance personnel and contractor Operators/Drivers

Conduct mid and yearly refresher training to all Operators/Drivers as a knowledge and skill retention program
-
Attend and participate in JHA and FRA for non-routine tasks in the active mining areas
-
Attend and participate in the investigation involving OC Mining equipment and communicate the developed corrective action plans to the production crews and follow up the implementation
-
Conduct annual reviews and updates of OC mining department SOPs for equipment operation and other tasks or activities
-
Attend and assist in the supervision of projects involving mining equipment in the active mining area and any areas where such machineries have been requested to work
-
Conduct classroom session and theory assessment for new hired equipment Operators/Drivers prior to starting field practical training
-
Use the simulator to train experienced Operators/Drivers for up-skilling and skill retention, appropriate and timely response to safety and emergency events which cannot be practically trained on real machines such as fire events, brake failure etc.

Use the simulator to train green (Starting from scratch/ Inexperienced) Operators/Drivers prior to starting training on the real machine in field

Conduct ad-hoc based training to Operators/Drivers for any identified malpractice which does not add value to the operation or training on accidents happening in other mines with similar operations

Assist in raising and filling in of flash and incident reports for the safety incidents involving mining machineries
-
Attend, participate and produce the training records for the Operators/Drivers involved in accidents
Qualification requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Mechanical/Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
- Valid certification or competency in equipment/vehicle operations or training (e.g., Earthmoving Equipment Trainer, Mobile Equipment Assessor).
- Computer literacy (MS Office, LMS platforms, training trackers).
- Knowledge of training a person/ imparting knowledge to a person
- Valid Tanzania Driving License with B, C, C1, C2, C3, D, E, F and G classes
- Fluency in Kiswahili and English as communication languages
- First aid Certificate
- Instructors/ assessor’s certificate
Experience and competencies needed.

- Proven experience delivering technical and OHS training.
- Competency in assessing equipment operation skills and issuing permits/authorizations.
- Ability to develop training materials, SOPs, and equipment-specific training modules.

- Physically fit and capable of passing a mine-site medical assessment
- Strong communication skills in English and ability to train and work with multicultural
- Familiarity with incident/accident investigation protocols
- Sound knowledge of Mining Safety Regulations and best practice.
- Mines Health & Safety Act Awareness.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal
- Strong organizational skills with an ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Familiarity with and commitment to HSE best practice.
