Bike accident hospital| Bike accidents are still a threat to world

Tanzania-Samia Suluhu Hassan, has said that more than 400 young people who ride bodaboda die every year due to road accidents caused by human error, including drunkenness, speeding and not wearing a helmet.

A call has been made to the drivers and passengers of motorcycle transport, popularly known as bodoboda, to comply with road safety rules as part of efforts to reduce accidents that have been caused by the transport that continues to gain speed in Africa.

The call has been issued while information from the Muhimbili Orthopedic Institute (MOI) shows that the institution receives an average of six bodoboda accident victims every day, while bodoboda injuries are said to be more than those from other accidents such as cars.

The Minister of Internal Affairs Hamad Masauni also told Parliament recently that in the period between July 2021 and March 2022, Tanzania had a total of 1,594 road accidents where 300 accidents were caused by bodaboda drivers.

Dr. Bryson Mcharo is an orthopedic specialist from MOI who has told The Source in a special interview recently that the problem of bodaboda accidents has been increasing in Tanzania since the transport started entering the country in 2009.
