Tanzania League of the Blind (TLB)

Tanzania League of the Blind (TLB) is a civil society organization which was formed in 1964 and registered in Tanzania in 1972.
It is the organization formed by persons with visual impairment for the purpose of advocating for the rights of persons with visual impairment in the country.

Tanzania League of the Blind is a registered non-governmental organization that is committed to improve the quality of life of people with visual impairment in Tanzania through lobbying and advocacy; awareness raising; information sharing; facilitating access to education and vocational training; and economic empowerment. In pursuing this mission, TLB networks with other like-minded organization and take cognizance of the cross-cutting issues of gender, HIV/AIDS, environment and good governance.

Tanzania League of the Blind (TLB) is the only national civil society organization operated by the blinds and visually impaired themselves in Tanzania. It has around 35,245 members with 104 district branches countrywide.

The blind students of Manoleo Vocational Training centre (VTC) in Tabora Region founded TLB in 1964. It was a forum to discuss the problems they encountered and also for voicing their grievances against hostile environment of the centre and for the equalization of opportunities for the blind and visually impaired people in Tanzania.

The organization grew up and became a national organization following its registration in 1972 under m, societies Ordinance Cap.337 of 1959 and was issued a registration no. SO 5034.
