Responsibilities
- Exhibit leadership through our safety “journey to zero”, promoting the correct safety culture within the department and wider operation.
- Manage a team of 3 geologists and 2 technicians with daily Grade Control activities.
- Deliver effective technical evaluations for optimal ore extraction and waste segregation.
- Deliver accurate daily, weekly and monthly reports of material movements, drilling KPIs, stope notes and reconciliation reports as required.
- Drive UG mapping activities to interpret key host lithologies, major structures and controls of mineralization to maximize ore extraction and increase geological understanding of the deposit.
- Manage the daily execution of 8 diamond drill rigs, to ensure drilling productivity meets budget forecasts in a safe and sustainable manner.
- Update Life Of Mine grade control drilling plans and schedules. Provide inputs for MRM-growth drill programs, near mine exploration, and feasibility studies.
- Drive geological interpretation of mapping and drilling observation with the on-site project geology team
- Communicate geological interpretations with on-site resource modeling team for generation of accurate geological and grade block models.
- Build and maintain collaborative internal relationships with key stakeholders (exploration, resource, reconciliation, underground operations, tech services)
- Drive development of junior staff, through training and mentorship to increase team capability/skillsets.
- Participate in, oversee, and/or lead the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide input into MRM-growth drill programs, near mine exploration, and feasibility studies.
- Prepare, provide, and participate in presentations internal and external to the department.
Qualification requirements
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology or related field required.
Experience and competencies needed.
- Five to seven years of post-graduate experience with at least three years in UG mine geology/ore control.
- Demonstrated people leadership and management skills in a similar role.
- Demonstrated experience as a safety leader within a geology department.
- A valid Driver’s License (manual-class license), experienced driving on a mine site.
- Experience in geological modelling software including Seequent’s Leapfrog and Maptek’s Vulcan
- Advanced understanding of geology, structure and mechanisms of mineralization in gold deposits.
- Ability to demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
