Job Title: CNG Operation and Maintanance Technician

Main Purpose:

The LPG Projects & Technical Engineer is responsible for managing the end-to-end delivery of LPG infrastructure projects, ensuring they are technically sound, financially viable, and fully compliant with regulatory and safety standards.

The role combines technical engineering expertise with strong project management capabilities to plan, design, execute, and commission LPG systems in line with NFPA 58, ISO 22991, EWURA LPG Code, and Puma Energy’s corporate guidelines.

This role reports to the Head of Engineering & Maintenance and plays a critical part in supporting business growth, operational efficiency, and safety excellence across the LPG value chain.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities, Key Responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities:

Project Management 
  • Lead the complete lifecycle of LPG infrastructure projects—from concept development, design, budgeting, and permitting to execution, commissioning, and handover.
  • Prepare and manage detailed project plans, schedules, and budgets in alignment with business objectives.
  • Coordinate procurement activities including equipment specification, tender evaluation, and vendor selection in compliance with procurement policies.
  • Oversee construction activities, ensuring adherence to engineering designs, safety regulations, and quality standards.
  • Conduct project reviews and prepare detailed reports on progress, risks, cost control, and timeline adherence for internal stakeholders and management.
  • Implement change management procedures and manage variations effectively to minimize cost and time overruns.
Engineering Design & Technical Support 
  • Develop and review technical specifications, layouts, P&IDs, and engineering drawings for LPG installations.
  •   Conduct site surveys, feasibility studies, technical assessments, and risk analysis for new LPG projects and expansions.
  •   Ensure engineering design complies with international standards (e.g., NFPA 58, ISO 22991), local codes (EWURA LPG Code), and Puma Energy’s technical and safety guidelines.
  •   Provide expert input into the selection, sizing, and installation of LPG storage tanks, piping systems, vaporizers, pumps, compressors, and safety devices.
  • Support the commissioning and start-up process, including pre-commissioning checklists, performance testing, and documentation.
Maintenance Planning & Execution 
  • Develop preventive and corrective maintenance strategies for LPG facilities and associated equipment.
  • Prepare maintenance schedules and ensure timely execution of inspection and servicing tasks to prevent unplanned downtimes.
  • Supervise and coordinate maintenance contractors and in-house technicians during servicing, troubleshooting, and repairs.
  • Maintain a comprehensive asset register, maintenance records, and spare parts inventory for critical LPG equipment.
  • Implement reliability-centered maintenance practices and monitor equipment performance using KPIs
Operational Support & Continuous Improvement
  • Provide technical support to LPG plant operations including troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and optimization of equipment performance.
  • Recommend engineering improvements and modifications to enhance operational efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Support plant upgrades, capacity expansions, and system redesigns in response to business growth or compliance requirements.
  • Introduce modern technologies or automation systems to improve monitoring and control of LPG operations.
Stakeholder & Team Collaboration 
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams including Operations, HSE, Commercial, Legal, and Procurement to ensure seamless project and maintenance execution.
  • Engage with third-party contractors, consultants, and suppliers to ensure delivery of high-quality, compliant services and materials.
  • Provide technical mentorship and training to junior engineers, technicians, and operational staff to enhance internal capabilities.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations, technical reports, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
Education 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • Professional registration with Tanzania Engineers Registration Board (ERB) .
  • Project Management Professional Cerfication  (PMP) or equivalent is an added avantage
Experience: 
  • Minimum 5–10 years of proven experience in LPG, Oil & Gas, or industrial gas project delivery.
  • At least 3 years of leading LPG storage or distribution infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated success managing EPC contracts, permitting processes, and operational commissioning.
Skills: 
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of LPG systems, equipment, and safety standards.
  • Proficiency in engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, MS Project).
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.Familiar with LPG industry standards: NFPA 58, ISO 22991, API 2510B, ASME B31.3, and local Tanzanian LPG codes.

Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Process, or Energy Engineering.
  • Preffered : PMP®, PRINCE2®, or equivalent.
  • Desirable: NFPA 58 / LPG Safety Certification, API 2510B, ISO 9001:2015 Auditor.
  • HSE Certifications: NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent in Safety Management.
