Operations Manager


Job Summary;

Our Client a Manufacturing Company is looking for an Operations Manager to manage all aspects of the site’s operations in accordance with customer requirements, as well as managing people, products, equipment, and storage facilities to ensure that all deliveries, collections, and safekeeping of products are properly administered and executed in compliance with agreed service levels, quality specifications, and health and safety regulations.
Responsibilities
  • Establish, guide, direct and oversee the Department aligned with overall strategy and objectives
  • Identify and timeously address problems and opportunities central to business success
  • Plan, select, develop and maintain suitable manpower capabilities for the Department
  • Develop and maintain a high-performance team
  • Establish and maintain relationships with stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legal and statutory requirements, meet principles of sound corporate governance and internationally accepted environmental, health, safety and quality standards
  • Implement and maintain all required systems, processes and procedures
  • Manage the day-to-day activities on the Plant/Facility
  • Manage and schedule shift operating personnel
  • Ensure that an effective, comprehensive and proactive training programme is developed and implemented
  • Ensure that all employees are suitably qualified and declared competent
  • Manage and report on the operational budget on a monthly basis
  • Produce operational, safety, quality and human resources reports
  • Oversee and ensure that products meet requirements
  • Ensure proper sampling procedures are followed.
  • Ensure accurate grading of seeds and beans and rejection of loads out of specification.
  • Ensure accurate analysis of bulk oil receipts and rejection of loads out of specification.
  • Ensure circulation and stirring of product to prevent build-up of stock in silos or sludge forming in crude tanks.
  • Ensure the quality of products are protected by preventing cross-contamination and infestation.
  • Managed stock rotation
  • Ensure all product dispatched comply with quality specifications.
  • Ensure all loads leave premises in sound condition and with all necessary documents.
  • Manage an efficient system to regulate traffic flow to- and from site.
  • Manage truck turn-around times.
  • Ensure the safe loading and off-loading of vehicles.
  • Ensure clean operations and prevention of spillage.
  • Reporting of any deviations and significant events.
  • Together with Supply Chain Manager, Raw Material, ensure the availability of sufficient storage space and ensure sufficient product is available for uninterrupted production processes.
  • In direct contact with the different processing Plant Managers, ensure the right communication concerning planning/procedures/housekeeping and registration of product flows.
  • Monitoring, recording, and directing the business’s revenue and spending.
  • Analyzing financial reports, revenue, and other expenses to find ways for increasing profits and reducing costs. Risk management
  • Monitor and mitigate site related safety risks.
  • Identify and address areas for continuous improvement.
  • Implement and maintain systems and practices necessary for an effective, innovative, safe and continuous learning (including dealing with lessons learned for all site related activities) culture among staff, contractors and suppliers
  • Stay abreast of, evaluate and implement appropriate modern world-class manufacturing thinking and techniques to ensure efficient and effective operations

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline (Engineering, Production, Logistics etc.)
  • Computer efficiency in Excel and SAP; database management or spread sheets
  • Over 5 years’ relevant operational experience of which 3 years must be in a senior operations capacity.
  • Proven track record of successfully implementing operational best practices in a manufacturing industry.
  • Experience in the FMCG/Manufacturing industry would be advantageous.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing Quality, Safety (including Food Safety) Systems and adherence to legislation.
  • Understanding of world-class manufacturing methodologies
  • Knowledge of industrial plant design, development, construction, commissioning and operations
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g. labour legislation, OHSA)
  • Understanding regulatory requirements
  • Project management skills
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal skills Knowledge
