Job Description

The Sales and Marketing Executive is responsible for leading and executing the sales and marketing strategies for an FMCG company selling a diverse portfolio of products, including wheat flour, detergents, edible oils, and soap, across the entire Tanzanian market. This role will involve oversight of both sales and marketing operations to drive growth, enhance brand visibility, and ensure the company’s products reach consumers effectively across all regions of Tanzania. The Director will be expected to lead a high-performance team, optimize distribution networks, and implement impactful marketing campaigns tailored to local and regional markets.
Responsibilities
Sales Leadership:
  • Develop Nationwide Sales Strategies: Create and implement sales strategies to drive revenue growth and market share for wheat flour, detergents, edible oils, and soap across all regions of Tanzania, including urban and rural areas.
  • Sales Team Management & Development: Lead, manage, and inspire the sales team across multiple regions. Provide coaching and performance management to ensure the team meets and exceeds sales targets.
  • Regional Distribution & Channel Management: Oversee the development and expansion of distribution networks across the country, ensuring products are available in all key regions, including remote areas.
  • Sales Forecasting & Reporting: Lead the preparation of sales forecasts, annual budgets, and reports. Track performance across all sales channels (wholesalers, retailers, direct consumers) and monitor KPIs to ensure targets are achieved.
  • Customer Relationship Management: Develop strong relationships with key customers, including large retail chains, distributors, wholesalers, and institutional buyers, ensuring long-term loyalty and high sales volumes.
  • Key Account Management: Negotiate terms with large accounts (supermarkets, wholesalers, and distributors) to secure long-term contracts and preferred supplier status.
  • Sales Performance & Optimization: Continuously optimize the sales process, identifying new opportunities for growth and improving sales operations efficiency across Tanzania.
Marketing Strategy & Brand Management:
  • National Brand Strategy Development: Develop and execute a comprehensive national marketing strategy for each product category (wheat flour, detergents, edible oils, soap) to increase brand awareness, market penetration, and consumer loyalty.
  • Market Segmentation & Positioning: Understand the diverse consumer segments across Tanzania (urban, peri-urban, rural) and create tailored marketing approaches that resonate with local preferences and needs.
  • Campaign Design & Execution: Lead the creation and implementation of marketing campaigns, both traditional (TV, radio, print) and digital (social media, email, online ads), ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Product Portfolio Management: Oversee the positioning and messaging for each product category. Work with product development and R&D teams to ensure product offerings meet the evolving needs of Tanzanian consumers.
  • Regional Marketing Initiatives: Coordinate marketing activities to ensure local relevance, managing regional campaigns that speak to the unique cultural, economic, and environmental contexts in various Tanzanian regions.
  • Digital Marketing & E-Commerce: Lead digital marketing efforts, focusing on growing the brand’s online presence and driving e-commerce sales, particularly in urban centers with growing digital adoption.
  • Consumer Promotions & Trade Marketing: Develop and implement consumer promotions, discounts, and trade marketing programs to increase in-store visibility, product trials, and market penetration.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Collaboration with Supply Chain & Logistics: Work closely with supply chain and logistics teams to ensure efficient product distribution across the country, especially for high-demand items like wheat flour and edible oils.
  • Coordination with Product Development & R&D: Partner with product development teams to ensure that product innovations and modifications align with local consumer preferences and market trends.
  • Customer Service Integration: Collaborate with the customer service department to address consumer feedback, resolve issues, and ensure customer satisfaction at all touchpoints.
Market & Financial Analysis:
  • Market Intelligence & Consumer Insights: Conduct regular market research to understand emerging trends, consumer preferences, and competitive activities in Tanzania’s FMCG sector.
  • Competitive Analysis: Track competitor strategies and market activities to ensure the company stays ahead in pricing, promotions, and product offerings.
  • Sales & Marketing Analytics: Use data analytics to measure campaign effectiveness, sales performance, and ROI. Provide actionable insights to senior leadership based on market trends and sales data.
  • Budget Management: Oversee the marketing and sales budget, ensuring that resources are allocated efficiently to achieve maximum results while staying within financial targets.
Leadership & Strategic Planning:
  • Nationwide Strategic Vision: Work with senior leadership to define and execute the long-term sales and marketing strategy for the company in Tanzania. Ensure the company’s objectives are met across all regions, from large urban centers to rural areas.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Foster a high-performance culture within the sales and marketing teams. Ensure ongoing training, career development, and succession planning to build a sustainable team.
  • Adaptation to Market Dynamics: Be adaptable and responsive to the unique challenges of the Tanzanian market, including logistical constraints, price sensitivity, and local consumer behavior.

Requirements

Knowledge and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Sales, or a related field (required).
  • MBA or relevant postgraduate qualifications (preferred).
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in sales and marketing within the FMCG sector, with a focus on products such as wheat flour, detergents, edible oils, and soap.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a senior leadership role, ideally overseeing national operations and managing a broad product portfolio.
  • Proven success in growing market share, optimizing sales channels, and leading high performing teams in diverse regions of Tanzania.
  • Experience in managing sales and marketing operations in East Africa, with knowledge of local trade dynamics, consumer behavior, and regulatory requirements.
  • In-depth knowledge of FMCG industry trends, consumer behavior, and competitive dynamics in Tanzania and East Africa.
  • Expertise in brand management, product positioning, and multi-channel marketing strategies.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage teams across multiple regions and markets.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills, particularly with large distributors and key retail accounts.
  • Analytical skills with the ability to interpret sales data, market trends, and campaign effectiveness.
  • Strong proficiency in CRM systems, digital marketing tools, and sales analytics platforms.
Working Conditions:
  • Full-time position with frequent travel across Tanzania, including visits to remote and rural areas.
  • Office-based with flexibility for remote work depending on the region and business needs.
  • Company truck will be provided to facilitate work logistics.
