Job Title: Senior Mechanic
Responsibilities
- Ensure safe work practices, i.e. attending compulsory safety courses and meetings, use of required PPE, incident/accident reporting and ensuring total adherence to all Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Policies, as well as other relevant policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Follow all maintenance procedures and ensure the completion of mechanical activities according to standard without causing any further damage to any component / system / equipment.
- Ensure equipment isolation, adhere to working at height and confined space standards/ procedures, and conduct pre-start checks/ inspections.
- Lead all mechanical planned and corrective maintenance activities, identify problems and implement remedial action.
- Provide leadership to ensure that employees and contractors adhere to safety and environmental standards that exceed worldwide industry practice and any applicable legislative requirements.
- Carry out mechanical repair and preventative maintenance to maintain equipment in a safe and efficient manner to achieve production and cost targets.
- Carry out troubleshooting, faultfinding and corrective maintenance in order to solve unplanned equipment unavailability events.
- Ensure that maintenance practices result in maximum equipment availability.
- Utilize work instructions to determine job requirements, including job sheets, quality and quantity of materials/ resources etc.
- Lead Mechanical Maintenance personnel to work safely at all times, develop and promote a safe and healthy work environment.
- Support the Mechanical Foreman and Mechanical Supervisor in budgeting and control of maintenance costs. Implement and monitor systems and take corrective action where necessary to ensure that consumable usage and costs remain favorable to budget.
- Perform routine checks on machines before using.
- Perform PM inspection according to the maintenance requirements and ensure preventive maintenance compliance.
- Conduct Mobile and Plant equipment upgrades/ modification as required.
- Ensure Maintenance Supervisor and all stakeholders kept informed of equipment availability status.
- Identification of mechanical equipment and resources, and selection and inspection of tools/ equipment.
- Follow up of outstanding maintenance/ repairs.
- Actively participate in training activities to gain new skills and develop full potential.
Qualification requirements
- Mechanics Trade Certification/ Full Technician’s Certificate/ VETA Grade one.
- Sound knowledge of Mining Safety Regulations and best practice.
- Mines Health & Safety Act Awareness.
- Driver’s license and pit/mine driving permit
Experience and competencies needed.
- At least five (5) years working experience in HME maintenance.
- Experience in systematic coaching and training of employees is essential.
- Experience with computerized maintenance systems, e.g. SAP, is essential
- 5-10 years working experience in Open Cast Maintenance Operation
- Experience working on Sandvik and Caterpillar machines is highly desired,
- Sound knowledge of Mining Safety Regulations and best practice.
- Possess a valid light vehicle manual-class driving license.
- Mines Health & Safety Act Awareness.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal
- Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of this job required.
- Familiarity with and commitment to HSE best practice.
- Ability to consistently manage such a diversified portfolio in a high-pressure environment.
