The Young Africans Sports Club, or simply Yanga, is a Tanzanian football team situated in the Jangwani neighborhood of Dar es Salaam. The club has been active since 1935 and calls Benjamin Mkapa Stadium home.

The club, known by their nickname “Yanga” (Young Boys), has participated in numerous editions of the CAF Champions League and has won 28 league titles and a number of domestic cups. Five times they have been crowned CECAFA Club Champions.

The club came to represent the fight against colonialism. The political group TANU took the colors yellow and green as symbols of the youth of Africa, who had come to be identified with nationalists and independence warriors. The club is currently undergoing a procedure that will maintain a 49% investor stake in the club and a 51% member stake.

From “Queens” to “Eagles” to “Sunderland,” the club has gone through a number of monikers. They changed their name to Simba in 1971. (Swahili for “Lion”).

Simba SC has competed in the CAF Champions League on many occasions, and the team has won 21 league crowns and 5 domestic cups. They have won the CECAFA Club Championship a record six times, making them one of the most successful clubs in East Africa.

When hosting opponents, Simba utilizes the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium as their home field. With 1.9 million followers in 2022, an increase of 89% from the year before, Simba’s Instagram account had the greatest growth rate among football clubs.

With a total budget of Sh 6.1 Billion (equal to $5.3 million) disclosed for the 2019/2020 season, the club is one of the wealthiest in East Africa.
