Yanga, or Young Africans Sports Club, is a Tanzanian football club headquartered in Jangwani, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The club was founded in 1935 and plays its home games at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.

The team, nicknamed “Yanga” (Young Boys),has won 28 league titles and a number of domestic cups, as well as competing in various CAF Champions League seasons. They have five CECAFA Club Championships to their name.
History

The club’s roots can be traced back to the 1910s, but the club’s officially recognized history began in 1935, when Dar es Salaam residents, who were classified as Africans by Tanganyika’s colonial administration, decided to form a football club to compete in a league dominated by “non-African” football clubs. The club’s first name is reported to be New Young. Later, it was replaced by the moniker Dar es Salaam Young Africans SC, and then by Young Africans Sports Club.

Following its founding in 1935, its members fought about their team’s poor performance and outcomes. In 1936, the club’s record was much worse and disappointing, prompting some of its members to separate and join another team. The breakaway supporters were Arabs who felt fit to incite disagreement among club members, resulting in a split. They were successful, and they created Queens F.C. with dissidents (currently Simba). Since then, the two teams, Young Africans and Simba, have remained rivals. The teams form the most exciting fight in the Sub-Saharan area, the eye-catching furious and recognized as one of the top five most talked about derbies in African football.

Yanga agreed to work as a consultant for La Liga in 2020.

On May 27, the club’s members voted to modify the club’s governing structure to allow for private investments from other firms.

The club became associated with the anti-colonial movement. Young Africans identified with nationalists and independence warriors, inspiring the political party TANU to choose yellow and green as its major colors. The club is now in the process of retaining 49% of the club’s ownership for investors and the remaining 51% for club members.

The club has a long-standing rivalry with Simba, with whom they compete in the Dar es Salaam (better known as Kariakoo) derby. As one of the most renowned African derbies, the rivalry was placed fifth.
