Community Wildlife Management Areas Consortium (CWMAC)

Community Wildlife Management Areas Consortium (CWMAC) also known as Authorized Associations Consortium (AAC) is the only community-owned CSOs which is an apex body for all Community Based organizations (CBOs) /Authorized Associations (AAs) that are managing Community Wildlife Management Areas (CWMAs) in the country. Members of the consortium are those CBOs which have attained Authorized Association status from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism. Current there are 21 AA members and 17 CWMAs in different stages of establishment process. The CWMAC was established in 2010 under the civil societies Act of 2002 as an umbrella body for all AAs in Tanzania. The consortium serves as a platform for AA members and other stakeholders to meet, discuss, plan and decide on different matters of their common interests. Importantly, the establishment of both CWMAs and eventually CWMAC is the result of the Wildlife Policy
