Yara Tanzania

Yara Tanzania is a fully owned subsidiary of Yara International ASA which was established as Chapa Meli Tanzania Ltd in 2005. To reflect the international family brand, in 2009 it was renamed as Yara Tanzania Ltd.

Yara is fully committed to invest and develop agriculture in Tanzania based on the agriculture potential (45m/Ha arable land). It has commissioned a fertilizer Terminal in 2015 at the port of Dar Es Salaam with a capacity to handle in excess of 500kT annually (Double the country’s needs).

Yara has over the decade played a part in supporting the transformation agenda – engaged in the establishment of SAGCOT in order to catalyse investments and smallholder grower development. Crop productivity is still low, with a growing population effort has been on commercialization of the smallholder units- Yara has established portfolio suitable for Tanzania soils (Based on soil tests) and also application competence suitable for the peasant farmers (One Step Forward).

Yara heavily supports the government agenda which is to improve access of fertilizer to the smallholder growers at a competitive price and drive the industrial development of the country. We go a step further by providing knowledge
